Democracy holds in Senegal
In February, this was not a foregone conclusion. But it is a welcome development.
Last weekend, Senegalese voters went to the polls to elect a new president. Around 7mn of Senegal’s 17mn people were registered to vote, and turnout was around 70%. With nineteen candidates running, the most in Senegal’s history, the voters were not wont of choice.
