Between Taiwan week and my month in Japan (and all of the attendant posts on Indonesia, Pakistan and Japan itself) you would be forgiven for thinking I have made the Obama-era pledge of “pivoting to Asia”.

But just because my focus has been on Asia1 doesn’t mean a lot isn’t happening across Europe.

So today I thought I would take a whirlwind European tour and look at what has been happening re: governments in the region. With EU parliamentary elections only 3 months away, how the political parties are viewed right now, and how they are positioning themselves, is important.

Especially with the threat of a mercurial (to say the least) US president coming down the line….2

As such, here are some thought on recent events in Hungary, The Netherlands and Portugal.3
